A Severe Flash Flood Warning is in effect for parts of Florida, including Holmes, Walton, and Washington counties, until 2:15 AM EDT, July 30. The alert was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) at 12:11 AM EDT.
The warning covers south central Holmes County, northeastern Walton County, and northwestern Washington County. Doppler radar indicates thunderstorms producing heavy rain, with between 2 and 3 inches of rain already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible, which could lead to flash flooding.
A Flash Flood Warning indicates that flooding is either occurring or will occur soon. Areas prone to flash flooding include small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that may experience flash flooding include Ponce De Leon, Caryville, Westville, and Hinsons Crossroads.
In case of an emergency, dial 911. Follow the guidance of the NWS and local authorities. To stay safe, turn around and do not drown when encountering flooded roads, as most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
