A Severe Flood Watch is in effect for multiple areas in Florida, including Geneva, Houston, Jackson, Calhoun, Inland Franklin, Gadsden, Leon, Inland Jefferson, Madison, Inland Wakulla, Coastal Franklin, Coastal Jefferson, Coastal Wakulla, Northern Liberty, Southern Liberty, Randolph, Calhoun, Terrell, Dougherty, Lee, Worth, Turner, Tift, Ben Hill, Irwin, Early, Miller, Baker, Mitchell, Colquitt, Cook, Berrien, Seminole, Decatur, Grady, Thomas, Brooks, Lowndes, and Lanier. The watch is in effect through Monday morning, October 5, 2026, at 8:00 AM, as issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL.
This alert indicates that flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Additional rainfall totals of 2 to 6 inches are forecast for most of the area, with locally higher amounts of up to 10 inches possible, especially along the Emerald Coast. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may also occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
In case of an emergency, dial 911. According to the NWS, residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. To stay safe, avoid walking or driving through flooded areas, as it only takes six inches of moving water to knock a person over and two feet to sweep a vehicle away. Additionally, move to higher ground if flooding is occurring or is expected, and avoid low-lying areas.
