A disturbing incident in Brooksville, Florida, has sparked an investigation into a deputy’s actions after a woman’s aggressive behavior led to her arrest. The encounter, which began at a gas station and escalated in a nearby mobile home park, was captured on multiple body cameras and an in-car camera, providing a detailed account of the events.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a disorderly woman causing a disturbance at a Texaco gas station on Ponce De Leon Boulevard. Employees reported that 33-year-old Iesha Field was yelling at customers and disrupting business operations. Deputies issued a trespass warning, but the situation did not de-escalate.
The Escalation of Events
Field left the gas station and continued her disruptive behavior at a nearby mobile home park on West Jefferson Street. According to investigators, she removed most of her clothing and was wearing only her underwear while yelling and disturbing residents, including a mother with children. Deputies noted that Field appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics and had pre-existing injuries to her right knee and left eye.
Despite repeated commands to return home, Field refused and became increasingly combative. When deputies attempted to take her into custody, she resisted efforts to place her into a patrol vehicle and repeatedly attempted to hit and kick the deputies. Her aggressive behavior continued inside the patrol vehicle, where she repeatedly banged her head and feet against the windows.
The Critical Moment
When deputies opened the patrol vehicle door to address Field’s behavior, she fell out of the vehicle due to her movements. Deputy M. LaPalme assisted her back into the vehicle, but the situation took a critical turn when Field spit on the left side of his face. As the deputy attempted to secure her with a seat belt, Field spit at him a second time.
The body camera footage captures Deputy LaPalme responding with an open-handed palm strike to Field’s face. The deputy can be heard saying, “Spit on me again! See what happens,” while holding Field by the neck. This action is currently under review by the sheriff’s office.
The Aftermath and Charges
Field continued to resist and attempt to damage the patrol vehicle during transport to the Hernando County Detention Center. Due to her continued combative behavior, additional restraints and a spit hood were utilized for the safety of both Field and the responding personnel.
Field was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officera felony, and disorderly intoxication. She was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center and is being held on a $3,000 bond. The incident has raised questions about the deputy’s use of force and the circumstances that led to the altercation.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that multiple body cameras and an in-car camera captured the entire interaction. The review of Deputy LaPalme’s actions is ongoing, and the outcome will determine any further disciplinary measures or changes in protocol.
