The Glenvar Heights neighborhood in Miami-dade county became the stage for a tragic end to a long-standing family feud. On April 24, 2026 a violent confrontation between brothers Robert Leyva and Eduardo Rivero, Jr. resulted in a deadly shooting that also involved law enforcement.
The incident, which unfolded at Priced Rights Motors, Inc. a business inherited by Rivero, highlighted the depths of the brothers’ animosity. The events of that day would ultimately claim the life of one brother and leave another fighting for survival.
The Escalation of a Family Feud
The feud between Leyva and Rivero had been simmering for years, but it reached a boiling point on that fateful day. Leyva, armed with a Zaviar Z15 rifle and a Canik TP9 semi-automatic pistol arrived at the business shortly after 12:20 p.m. on a scooter, according to records. His intentions were clear: to confront his half-brother.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control. Leyva fired at the responding officers, Deputies Alfredo Perez and Dea Harris who were forced to use deadly force in response. The confrontation took place at 7321 SW 45 St. just west of South Miami.
The Role of Law Enforcement
According to the closing memo signed by Miami-Dade Assistant State Attorney Sara Imm and approved by State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle Leyva shot at the officers before they responded with force. The memo stated that it was reasonable
Armando Yadro, who was present during the shooting, told a 911 dispatcher that he had been shot by Leyva and was pretending to be dead to avoid further harm. The deputies used a ballistic shield as they responded to the threat.
The Aftermath of the Shooting
The shooting left a trail of devastation. Rivero, 35, was fatally shot in the side of the head and was pronounced dead at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. Yadro, 35, suffered a wound to the clavicle but survived. Leyva, 49, was shot in the head and suffered complications from the gunshot wound, ultimately passing away on February 14, 2026.
The prosecutor’s memo revealed that doctors were unable to remove the projectile lodged in Leyva’s brain, which contributed to his eventual death. The incident highlighted the tragic consequences of a long-standing family feud and the critical role of law enforcement in such volatile situations.

Adding to the chaos of the situation, Leyva reportedly directed a perceived explosive which turned out to be a smoke bomb that appeared to be a grenade. This further escalated the tension and necessitated a swift and decisive response from the deputies.
