The St. Johns Cultural Council has received a significant boost for its arts initiatives, securing a $60,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. This funding will support the council’s Arts for All Grant Program which aims to bring creative opportunities to communities that need them most.

In Northeast Florida, access to the arts can be limited, especially in Title I elementary schools where students may not have the financial means to participate in cultural activities. The Arts for All Grant Program addresses this disparity by providing grants of up to $10,000 to small arts, culture, and heritage organizations. This year, the program will distribute a total of $70,000 an increase of $20,000 from the previous year.

Expanding Reach and Impact

The St. Johns Cultural Council is committed to reaching underserved rural areas with this funding. However, arts organizations across St. johns county are encouraged to apply. The application process for these grants will open on Oct. 15 providing organizations with the opportunity to bring their creative projects to life.

Past Successes and Future Goals

In previous years, the Arts for All Grant Program has supported a variety of initiatives, including in-school dance lessons at Title I schools, a local tour by an Afrobeat musician and a photography exhibition showcasing female veterans. These projects have made a tangible difference in the lives of many residents, providing both educational and cultural enrichment.

The council’s goal is to continue this impact by funding projects that resonate with the community. By prioritizing underserved areas, the program aims to ensure that everyone has access to the transformative power of the arts. The St. Johns Cultural Council invites all eligible organizations to apply and contribute to this mission.
